11 Best Tips on Handling Child Tantrums

A tantrum is always a challenge to parents with babies who are a year old or older. It happens occasionally until the baby is about 6 or 7 years old, and experts say it’s normal. A tantrum is when a child wants something badly, but cannot get it, like when they feel hungry in the middle of sleep. You suddenly find the baby angrily crying, making you feel like a war broke out or something.

Don’t lose your cool. Here are some tips on neutralizing child tantrums:

1. Try the milk remedy.

Kids under 2 or 3 years old usually throw tantrums because of hunger. Just feed them and they will calm down. In most cases, they immediately go back to sleep during or after feeding.

2. Distract them with a toy.

Children often throw tantrums out of frustration over not being able to do what they want to do. It’s best to divert the baby’s attention to a colorful toy or object.

3. Sing.

Singing is another effective diversionary tool here. For some reason, babies and even older kids are often attracted to music, lullabies, or nursery songs. Try it to tame a tantrum.
